two stunning bridal looks, one celebration in Markham, Ontario

Some wedding days are wonderfully simple. Others are filled with so many meaningful moments that you wonder how everything fits into a single day.

Sandra and Matthew's wedding was definitely the latter.

From a traditional tea ceremony surrounded by family to an outdoor ceremony at Angus Glen Golf Club, their celebration brought together cultural traditions, heartfelt moments, and a whole lot of personality.

And with two bridal looks, a first look, and plenty of time for portraits, there was no shortage of beautiful moments to capture.

A Morning Rooted in Family Traditions

The day began at ESpace Studio, where Matthew got ready with the help of his groomsmen before the morning's celebrations.

One of the most meaningful parts of Sandra and Matthew's wedding was their traditional Chinese tea ceremony.

With 11 sets of family members participating, it was an opportunity to honour loved ones and bring generations together before the larger wedding celebration.

Tea ceremonies are some of my favourite moments to photograph because of the interactions that happen between the formalities. The smiles, laughter, gestures of affection, and little exchanges between family members often tell as much of the story as the ceremony itself.

These are the moments that make wedding photographs feel personal long after the day has passed.

Two Dresses, Two Beautiful Chapters

Following the tea ceremony, we made time for portraits of Sandra in her red dress before she changed into her white wedding gown.

I love when couples incorporate different outfits into their wedding day, especially when each look represents a different part of their celebration.

The red dress brought a beautiful sense of tradition and colour to the morning, while the white gown marked the transition into the afternoon ceremony.

With her mother and bridesmaids nearby to help her get ready, Sandra also planned a first-look moment with her bridesmaids before heading to the wedding venue.

And just like that, the next chapter of the day began.

A Romantic First Look at Angus Glen Golf Club

Our afternoon continued at Angus Glen Golf Club in Markham, where Sandra and Matthew planned their first look near the barn.

First looks offer couples a chance to see each other before the ceremony, away from the attention of their guests.

They also create an opportunity for relaxed portraits before the day's celebrations pick up again.

With the beautiful grounds of Angus Glen as our backdrop, we made time for couple portraits, wedding party photographs, and family portraits before guests began arriving.

Having those photographs completed earlier in the afternoon meant Sandra and Matthew could spend more of their cocktail hour enjoying the company of their guests.

An Outdoor Ceremony Surrounded by Loved Ones

Sandra and Matthew's wedding ceremony took place on the outdoor terrace at Angus Glen Golf Club.

With approximately 60 to 70 guests invited, their celebration brought together family and friends for an afternoon filled with meaningful moments.

After a morning of cultural traditions and family gatherings, the outdoor ceremony marked another important chapter in their wedding day.

Following the ceremony, everyone moved into cocktail hour in the Victoria Room, where we also made time for formal group photographs.

I always appreciate when couples prioritize photographs with their guests. While portraits of the newlyweds are important, the people who came to celebrate with them are just as much a part of the story.

A Reception With a Few Surprises

One of the lovely details of Sandra and Matthew's wedding was how they made use of the different spaces at Angus Glen.

The Victoria Room hosted cocktail hour, followed by their first dance and cake cutting before guests moved upstairs to the Kennedy Loft for dinner.

It was a slightly different approach to the traditional reception timeline, and a wonderful way to give those special moments their own space.

The evening continued with a welcoming speech, a prayer from a family friend, and dinner accompanied by speeches from the wedding party.

We also made time for photographs at the guest tables, capturing the people who had gathered to celebrate Sandra and Matthew.

And because no wedding needs to be entirely serious, the evening included a centerpiece giveaway and a wedding shoe game.

A little romance, a little friendly competition, and plenty of opportunities for laughter.

Stealing a Moment at Sunset

With a full day of celebrations behind them, Sandra and Matthew also planned a little time for sunset portraits.

These are often some of my favourite moments during a wedding.

After the excitement of the ceremony, the family photographs, and the reception, stepping outside together gives couples a chance to enjoy a quieter moment.

And with the open grounds of Angus Glen Golf Club, we had a beautiful setting to work with.

Sometimes, even a few minutes away from the reception can create photographs that feel wonderfully different from the rest of the day.

A Celebration of Family, Tradition, and Love

What made Sandra and Matthew's wedding memorable was the way they brought so many different elements together.

The morning tea ceremony honoured their families and traditions. Their first look and portraits gave them time together. Their outdoor ceremony brought everyone together to celebrate, and the evening reception was filled with the people and activities they wanted to share.

It was a wedding that made room for both tradition and personality.

And that's what I love about photographing weddings: no two celebrations tell quite the same story.

Sandra and Matthew's day was a beautiful reminder that you don't have to choose between honouring where you come from and creating a wedding that feels entirely your own.

You can do both.
